This workshop, hosted by WFP, marks the first consultative workshop in the region to provide a platform for experts to share experiences, challenges, and capacities to facilitate a regional agenda towards anticipatory action and early warning.
The main objective of this workshop was to take stock of the overall rationale of anticipatory action and
what it means for the Arab region and to then establish an initial community of practice (CoP) among interested organizations and partners. A second aim was to engage with partners and act as a platform for further collaboration towards meaningful exchange around enhancing access to climate information and data for decision-makers as a means to respond to climate threats and support adaptation in the food & agriculture sector in the region.
Discussions focused on areas of strengthening national and regional capacities and partnerships for coordination in delivering climate data for anticipatory action, as well as, sharing experiences among international, regional, and national data institutions. The workshop included speakers from WFP, ODI, REAP, ICARDA, IFRC/GRC, LAS, AWC and was attended by 133 participants over 2 days (24-25 August 2020), from global and regional organizations and institutions.
