The General Assembly is the source of all powers of the AWC, responsible for drawing its policies, and following up and monitoring its activities. The General Assembly is governed by the Constitution and By-Laws and can take all necessary decisions to monitor work progress in the Council to develop and achieve its goals

The General Assembly meets at least once every three years in ordinary meetings and as needed in extraordinary meetings.

The General Assembly appoints and elects a maximum of 45 members to the Board of Governors in accordance with the Constitution and By-Laws.



The Executive Committee & the Secretary General are responsible for the management of Arab Water Council operations and for decision-making between Board of Governors meetings.

Background

The Arab Water Council (AWC) was launched on 14 April 2004, as a regional non-profit organization with activities extended on both regional and international scales. The Headquarters of the Arab Water Council is the Arab Republic of Egypt according to the Host Agreement signed between the Government of Egypt and the Council in February 2009.


The General Assembly meeting endorsed AWC Constitution and By-Laws in December 2009, as legal official documents that draw the provisions & regulations of the Council.

Vision

The Council is working towards an Arab collective role that raises the level of awareness with existing water resources management challenges, intensifies the current effort to confront them and contributes to development of the new water culture.

Mission

The Arab Water Council mission is to promote deeper understanding and better management of the water resources in the Arab states in a multi-disciplinary, non-political, professional and scientific approach to disseminate knowledge and enhance sharing of experiences to achieve integrated water resources management for sustainable development and good water governance for the benefit of the Arab people.
