The program is one of the first pioneering regional programs aiming towards recognizing Arab women scientists' achievements. Following the success of the L’Oreal &UNESCO Pan Arab Fellowships ‘For Women in Science’, the program has been expanded in 2011 to include candidates from 17 Arab countries to further celebrate the phenomenal achievements of the region’s women scientists.

In 2012 L’Oreal and UNESCO, for the third year of the program, will grant 10 fellowships to 10 exceptional scientists from Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, the Sultanate of Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, U.A.E. and Yemen.
